My Review of In The End

I love the Ivy Nash series and this book just made me love it even more, Ivy is trying to help a family find their missing daughter, but they are illegal immigrants and don’t want to go to the authorities as they are worried they will be deported and not be able to find their daughter.
Meanwhile Ivy is trying to throw herself into her job and finding this girl instead of facing her past and finding her birthparents, something Ivy’s boyfriend is pushing her to do. She just is not ready to take that leap yet, but with this new case to distract her she can push that aside and concentrate on work.
As Ivy dives more into the life of this missing girl she begins to wonder if what her parents think of her is really how she is. Is she the perfect student or is there something more going on here. She eventually brings in Stan to unofficially help her. Stan is also working on a case with his partner at the missing girls school, there have been satanic rituals going on around the school and a local church.
What I love about this book and the other Ivy Nash books is that they can be read together or alone, and all of them provide a thrill ride of a read and keep you on your toes. I couldn’t even began to guess the end of this book and it makes for a wonderful read at you try to figure out what is going on, what connects everything and what they are going to do next.
I give IN The End
5/5

The Scoop
By now you’re probably aware that the Alex Troutt thrillers, Ivy Nash thrillers, and the soon-to-be-released Ozzie Novak thrillers are all under the same Redemption Thriller Series umbrella. Why? Because, ultimately, they all connect — Alex, Ivy, Ozzie. How? That’s part of the mystery that I’m slowly unveiling throughout the Redemption Thriller Series.
Through each sub-series, characters from different books appear in the other novels. If it adds suspense, intrigue, or even a good laugh, I’ve included a cross-over character — it’s a lot more fun that way. Plus — and here’s the real kicker — I’ll write a final six novels that brings all of the major characters together — Alex, Ivy, Ozzie. It will be explosive and gut-wrenching…in a way that will leave you breathless. At least that’s my hope.

Starting with IN The End, I’ll be launching a new book every 2-4 weeks. IN The End will segue into the Ozzie Novak Thrillers. ON Edge (book 1), is due out on November 28. From there, it will be non-stop suspense until all six Ozzie books are released. And my editor tells me that Ozzie Novak is my best character yet.:) So, I hope you’re ready for some thrilling binge-reading.

Book Review: In Control by John W Mefford

NEW RELEASE….

A child is kidnapped, sending a mother into a panicked frenzy. It’s one of a dozen such crimes across central Texas, targeting those who live behind the pristine brick walls of master planned communities.

Ivy Nash hunts the kidnappers, but she quickly sees this case morph into something else entirely different…more dangerous, more twisted than anyone could imagine.

At the same time, the father of Ivy’s long-time friend pleads with her to do what no friend would ever want. But what she learns could shatter their worlds. An international drug trafficking ring. A professional hit. And one cover-up after another.

Secrets from the past are exposed, but how can Ivy separate reality from a smokescreen of falsehoods? With lives on the line, she can’t fail. The clock is ticking…

My Review of In Control by John W Mefford

Yet another amazing book by John W Mefford. I said it a few years ago and I will say it again. I have found another favorite author and I just can’t put his books down.

In Control follows Ivy Nash as she gets settled into her new offices and is looking forward to to getting down to business. Then crazy things happen, first her best friends dad comes in wanting her to look into his daughters fiancée, then drunk lady crashes into a sign outside of Ivy’s office. The lady turns out to be a women who needs Ivy’s help, but talking either case is going to cause Ivy a few headache’s.

Should Ivy take either case is her question, one could hurt her best friend, the other is for a women who can’t seem to stay sober long enough to give helpful information.

What I really love about this book is that it brings characters from the Alex Troutt Thrillers over and you get to know them a little more, it’ also has so many weird twist and turns that you really have no idea what is going on until the end. The end is crazy and so awesome in a good and bad way, good because reading it is a a huge thrill ride, but bad because of what happens. I don’t write spoilers so you will have to check out the book to see what I mean.

I recommend this book and the other books in the series to anyone who loves a good thriller and is looking for something that will entice them, make them not want to stop reading and make you think a little as well.

Q&A with author John W. Mefford:
Q: What do the Ivy Nash Thrillers have to do with the Redemption Thriller Series?

JWM: The Ivy Nash Thrillers comprise the second sub-series in the Redemption Thriller Series. The Alex Troutt Thrillers are the first sub-series. While I’ll eventually write a series that connects the major characters and plots from all the sub-series, you don’t have to read the AT books prior to the IN books. But I have to say, the AT thrillers are darn good.

Q: So you’re saying you don’t have to read the Alex Troutt Thrillers before the Ivy Nash Thrillers?

JWM: Nope. While a few of the characters might occasionally overlap between the series, they can be read as stand-alone. And then I’ll wrap everything up in a final set of six novels that connects all of the main characters and stories from each sub-series. If you haven’t read any of the Alex Troutt thrillers yet, you can try out the first three at a pretty nice discount. Just search for Alex Troutt Box Set.

Q: Can you give some insight into how Ivy Nash might connect to Alex Troutt down the line?

JWM: Sure…and then I’ll send over a hit squad. Seriously, I’ll be sprinkling in a few clues along the way for those who pay close attention to the details, but it will all come together in that final six novels of the Redemption Thriller Series. And it will be explosive and gut-wrenching at the same time.

Q: How many different sub-series are you planning to have in the Redemption Thriller Series?

JWM: Right now, I see four sub-series in the Redemption Thriller Series, with six novels in each. It’s the most challenging and fulfilling creative endeavor I’ve undertaken. I hope you enjoy the journey.

My Review of Break IN

I really enjoyed reading this book, not only do I love the main character, but as usual John Mefford’s writing is so good that I can not put it down. It’s I good thing I can read one of these in a night, because I may have missed work with this one!

Break IN is a very strong and intense book with some crazy things going on. You will find yourself drawn in and keep you wondering what is going to happen next and what will Ivy do? Another reason I really love these books, you just don’t know what is going to happen next.
Ivy is a character you can really relate with, in this book Ivy is dealing with multiple kidnappings, she helps a grandfather who’s  grandson is kidnapped only to have another grandson kidnapped after getting the first back. I felt so bad for this poor guy.
That is not the worst part as Ivy is in the hospital, visiting Christine a friend when there is some trouble and as she is fleeing the hospital she is kidnapped herself!
You really must read this book if you like any type of a thriller, this book is so full of twist and turns that will make your head spin, but you still won’t be able to put it down.

Book Review: House of Shadows by Nicola Cornick

cover107229-medium

About House of Shadows

The wooded hills of Oxfordshire conceal the remains of the aptly named Ashdown House—a wasted pile of cinders and regret. Once home to the daughter of a king, Ashdown and its secrets will unite three women across four centuries in a tangle of romance, deceit and destiny…

In the winter of 1662, Elizabeth Stuart, the Winter Queen, is on her deathbed. She entrusts an ancient pearl, rumored to have magic power, to her faithful cavalier William Craven for safekeeping. In his grief, William orders the construction of Ashdown Estate in her memory and places the pearl at its center.

One hundred and fifty years later, notorious courtesan Lavinia Flyte hears the maids at Ashdown House whisper of a hidden treasure, and bears witness as her protector Lord Evershot—desperate to find it—burns the building to the ground.

Now, a battered mirror and the diary of a Regency courtesan are the only clues Holly Ansell has to finding her brother, who has gone missing researching the mystery of Elizabeth Stuart and her alleged affair with Lord Craven. As she retraces his footsteps, Holly’s quest will soon reveal the truth about Lavinia and compel her to confront the stunning revelation about the legacy of the Winter Queen.

My Review of House of Shadows

I really enjoyed reading House of Shadows. The story does bounce around a bit as you go back and forth between time periods, but it’s such a compelling story that you just keep reading. I really enjoyed the characters in this book as they were well defined and had depth that really made you feel for them as they made their way though the story.

I find I related well to Holly, not just because we share a name, but because of her steadfast believe in her brother and her willingness, eventually to start down the same path he took to find out more about the items that seemed to cause so many problems.

If you love historical books this is a great read for you. I had not known much about the Winter Queen, but after finishing this book I started doing research and I have to say she was an amazing women.

The hunt is on…but who’s the one being pursued?

My Review of In Pursuit by John W. Mefford

I loved this book even more then I loved the first book in this series. I love looking at the other reviews of this book, because I really agree with them, reading any book by John W. Mefford is just like watching a movie, in fact I would love to see these books made into movies.

More about this book. I love how in depth the character of Ivy Nash is, you feel drawn into what is going on around her without realizing it. That in my opinion makes for an amazing read. Not only do you find yourself wondering what’s going on with all of the twist turns and crazy, but you find you want to be her friend and help her along the way, well at least that is how I felt about this book.

I really recommend this series and this book for anyone who wants a good suspenseful read with a strong female in the lead role. This book will pull you in and make you want more and more. I can not wait for the next one!

Filter Shift Book Tour and Review

NEW RELEASE!

Filter Shift describes the notion of unconscious filters: how we create them, how we perceive the world through them, and how they control us. The vast majority of us are persistently held back by our unconscious biases and misperceptions, even with the best of intentions. Filter Shift explores the unseen dynamics that get in the way, providing a series of blueprints for success.

The Filter Shift ModelFilter Shift Model

Book Excerpt

False Prescriptions
When it comes to our interactions across difference—frankly, all interactions—an unconscious optometrist chooses our filters based on false prescriptions we write for ourselves. This process is completely natural; our brains are wired to react this way. Our perception of any given situation is filtered quickly and unconsciously. We don’t even realize a filter through which to view an interaction has been preselected without our conscious participation. These false prescriptions are  rooted in our misconceptions of our own cultural competence. Recognizing them for what they are is an essential first step in learning to Filter Shift.
Prescription #1: I’m not around people who are different from me that much, so it’s a moot point
Every interaction is an interaction across difference. That means we all experience this, all the time. I’m misled if I think this person is just like me because I don’t see any obvious differences between the two of us—we’re the same race, gender, age, etc. Yet we are different because our filters are different, and it is our filters that determine how we see and respond to each other. If we allow ourselves to be lulled by external similarities, we easily miss the broader spectrum.
Prescription #2: Exposure = Competence
Here we make statements like “I’m around differences all the time. I have a gay couple for neighbors, my mom has lived with a disability all my life, and my best friend is black!” The inherent belief in these statements is that “I am exposed to difference, therefore I am competent in my interactions across difference”—as if a new skillset is in the air when differences are present and all we need to do is breathe it in. The ability to interact effectively across difference, like any other complex skill, needs to be consciously developed. Think of it in comparison to developing math skills. You would never assume a child could learn math if you just sat them in a room all day where mathematicians were present. As with math, we need intentional, developmental learning and practice to nurture this skill.
Prescription #3: I get this stuff; it’s my coworkers (or spouse or neighbors) that don’t!
Most people, if asked, would say that they do pretty well interacting across difference—that they are already fairly competent. Yet the reality is that only a very small percentage of us actually are competent. This ever-present gap between our perception and reality leads to much of the confusion and conflict that happens as we interact across difference. If I believe I “get it” and still experience situations where interactions with others are ineffective, then it must be their issue.
Prescription #4: Identity = Competence
This prescription is particularly tricky in that, while widely believed, it goes unspoken more often than not. It’s the notion that people from marginalized groups—especially people of color and women—are somehow more skilled at interacting across difference, that somehow the experiences tied to our identity inherently increase the reality of our perceptions. In actuality, that’s simply not the case. Going back to the second prescription, we need to deliberately develop the ability to Filter Shift, no matter our cultural origins or identity.
Prescription #5: I’m colorblind!
This comment is typically heard as an individual is trying to frame him/herself as a generally good person. The assumption is that only bad people have biases while in actuality we all have biases. Biases are morality-neutral. They’re a natural product of our brains working to categorize and make sense of the world for us. Eliminating bias is an unattainable goal. Instead, to be more effective, we need to recognize and understand our biases and their impact on how we see and operate. We can only do that by acknowledging that we have biases in the first place.
Prescription #6: Comfort = Competence
We’ve all felt discomfort at one point or another in our lives as we have encountered difference. It may have been the first time we ate dinner at a friend’s house, or the first time we walked into a new workplace, new neighborhood, or new country. The fallacy here comes when we believe that as the discomfort dissipates, a generalized competence somehow materializes. However, just because we’ve become comfortable in a particular situation, or with a particular person, doesn’t mean we’ve learned how to be effective outside of that single situation or with anyone other than that particular individual.

My Review of Filter Shift

I love this book. It’s a huge eye opener and I’m a person who doesn’t have a huge issue with differences as I am very different myself. I still took away so much and am looking forward to see how this will help me grow as a person and even grow my network marketing business.

For me the part that helped and opened my eyes a bit is the focus on color. I am not racist by any means, but I spent my teens in the country and at that time there were not many people of color around, most were Mexican farm workers, though there were one or two blacks. Before that I grew up in the city, in low income housing so I even though I knew there were some good people from different races, when I started being around blacks again I found myself nervous and a little on edge. I hated it, because I knew better. I am better now, but after reading this book. I’m hoping that I can use what I read and stop having that reaction at all.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking to grow themselves and see the world with a new view. It’s a wonderful book for anyone in business as it can really show you how to better interact with people who are not like you.

In Defiance Book Tour and Review

NEW RELEASE….
Author John W. Mefford introduces Ivy Nash in the second series of the Redemption Thriller Collection.

A volatile hostage situation at a foster home reaches a bitter end: shots are fired, some die, some live to tell a sordid tale. In the midst of the anguish and confusion is one child who will bear the scars of this unbelievable turmoil.

As a special investigator for Child Protective Services, Ivy Nash lives by one rule: she’ll do anything to fight for the wellbeing of children. Anything. Something that was never done for her. As a “system” kid, she spent time in seventeen foster homes. Seventeen.

Very quickly, the facts of the case are blurred…accusations of sibling abuse, connections to drugs. Nothing lines up, and authorities want it all to go away. Their target? A ten-year-old boy. Unrelenting in her pursuit to find the truth, Ivy and her new friend Cristina uncover alarming new information to pinpoint who is at the root of the crime.

But evil knows no boundaries. Shockwaves of her most horrific childhood memories erupt into the present, and Ivy knows that she’s in the fight for her life.

My Review of In Defiance.

I received this book through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, I have volunteered to share my review and all the opinions are 100% my own.

I was so excited to read this book. I love the Alex Troutt Series and was really looking forward to reading this new series. The good news is I was not dissapointed!

What I love most about this series is that Ivy is a system kid. I grew up with friends from foster homes and so many think that they can not amount to anything, but here is a role model for all of them, yes she is fictional, and yes this is not a book for kids, but I have and will continue to recommend it to older teens and young adults.

On to the book! I really enjoyed the twist and turns in this book. It’s a escape from reality that makes you think, makes you wonder and completely proves you wrong. I really recommend this book to anyone who loves a good thriller. I am really looking forward to the next book!

Part of the Redemption Thriller Collection which includes the Alex Troutt Thrillers and the upcoming Ivy Nash Thrillers. While all of the novels can be read as a stand-alone, there is a connecting thread in the Redemption Thriller books that will be unveiled over time. For a more fulfilling reading experience, books should be read in order: Alex Troutt, and then Ivy Nash. More series will be added into the collection within the next year.

Christmas with an Angel banner

ABOUT CHRISTMAS WITH AN ANGEL BY DEBBIE MASON

It’s been eight long years since Michael Gallagher has laid eyes on Shay Angel, back when he was a boy from the most prominent family in town and she was a girl from the wrong side of the tracks. But he hadn’t cared about their differences—until one bad decision landed her in jail.

That was years ago and now he’s back in Harmony Harbor for the holidays. So when Shay goes missing, Michael is intent on finding her—and finding out if their sizzling attraction is still there. But he’s now a district attorney, and it looks like Shay is once again on the wrong side of the law.

My Review of Christmas with an Angel

I love this cute story. It’s a sideline story from the first book and I’m sure we are going to get to know these two characters even more as this series continues! It’s a short story so it’s a very fast read, but does bring some insight into the relationship between Shay and Michael. I’m looking forward to seeing what Debbie Mason has planned for them.

A great short read to get away from the world for an hour or so!

At Last by John W. Mefford book review

New Release….
Alex Troutt Thriller, Book #6
AT Last

Thirty years after losing a parent to a hit-and-run drunk driver, FBI agent Alex Troutt finally confronts the killer–the same man who just murdered the Boston police chief.
And what Alex pulls from him shatters her core.

Armed with little more than hope and a shred of decades-old evidence, Alex chases a memory from her past, hoping that she’ll find the mother she never really had. With her old buddy Archie on board –as much as ever can be — the hunt takes her deep into the foothills of West Virginia. A fanatical religious cult has created its own society. Desperate to right a thirty-year wrong, Alex must out-think and out-duel everyone in her path to right a thirty-year wrong.

Will Alex’s quest to find the truth destroy her life all over again?

My Review of At Last by John W. Mefford

Like the other books in this series this book is a fun thrill ride that just keeps you guessing. I do love that we get to learn more about Alex as a person and her family life growing up. Reading these books is like getting to know a new friend, you learn things about them over time and it makes you feel like you are really a big part of the story.

I also enjoy how each book covers something a bit different, it’s not always the same type of cases and At Last is not even a case! It is a great side story that makes the main character more real and I hope that the friendship feeling created with this book is carried on in the next book and beyond.

At Last can be read alone, but I do suggest you read the other books in this series first. Read My other reviews of the Alex Troutt Series.

Should you Use UHaul?

I have moved many times in my life, I think I’m going on move 29 or so. I have almost always used UHaul. When I did not, I used my and friends trucks and cars. I’d say until a year ago I was a very happy UHaul customer.

Then a year ago I had to move quickly. I had to have storage, so of course I used UHaul. It was so easy to book my truck, but when it came to storage the website was a bit deceiving. It told me the storage I wanted was not open the day I was going to move, I was not able to go to get access before my move day so I decided I needed to switch storage places to one that is open on a Sunday. I called and told them my situation and they switched places for me.

That was problem number one, I found out when I showed up at the storage place that I had to go to a location 5 miles away to get a card to access the facility, by the way that location was where I got my truck. Also they did not take payments there, and oh by the way, they didn’t have my size unit, but they had one a step up and only $40 more a month! I told them I made arrangements over the phone for a smaller unit. The response was, well customer service sometimes gets things wrong and when you call our store, your being forwarded to a call center.

Yes, I signed for the unit because I was sitting their with a full truck and only had that day to move.

I have been paying for that unit for over a year now. I had some trouble paying the last 2 months so I am moving my stuff out of the unit. When I called to see if I could make payment arrangements and still have access to my unit I was told by customer service that I would be able to make a payment arrangement and still have access. I set up a truck rental and went in to pay at the store, because well, customer service can’t set up payment plans or take partial payments. This should have been my second warning.

When I went into the store I was again told that customer service always screws up and that I would not have access to my unit under a payment plan. Needless to say I was upset, I wanted to move the next day and now I could not. I canceled my truck and walked out of the store. That night I rescheduled a truck though Penskie for the weekend.

Two days later I get online and pay off my unit. As you can see from my invoice I had to pay $187.00. I paid it and was so happy that I was going to be done with all of the mess, then I got the text about my payment.

Instead of taking $187.00 They took $217.00.  I’m livid at this point and am very unhappy with UHaul. I was at work when I found out they over charged me, so I sent a quick message about the problem and have still not heard back.

Now I do want to clarify that when it comes to renting a truck I had no problems. Still this whole experience has left a bad taste in my mouth for the company as a whole. Not because they couldn’t give me what I wanted, but because I was lied to and a year later lied to again. Meaning, they still have not fixed their issues a year later.

Have you used UHaul to move or for storage? What has been your experience?

At Dusk Book Review and Tour

New Release….
Alex Troutt Thriller, Book #5
AT Dusk

A little boy makes his first kill—and he likes it. He is cunning, charming, and without remorse.

He is a sociopath.

As boy turns to man, what lies inside takes root. He will make a mark on Boston unlike any other, and FBI Special Agent Alex Troutt must figure out how to stop him.

But when she and her close-knit team move in closer, the stakes become much higher as the case takes on a more personal tone. It’s a frantic race to stop a manipulative killer before his web of deceit and destruction escalates into a blood bath of haunting proportions.

My Review of At Dusk

I have said it once and I will say it again, this is my new favorite series! I really enjoy how we get to know more about Alex with each book and I love the romantic but not quite romantic relationship she is now having!

The suspense of this book is crazy! I kept thinking it was one person who did it in the beginning and then something is thrown in crazy like and I thought it was someone else. I will say in the end I was right, but only because I had 3 suspects in my head!

The other think I like about At Dusk is even though we see a history in the criminal themselves we really don’t get a good idea of why they are doing what they are doing until the end. I liked that as it kept me on my toes and I just had to keep reading!

This is a book for anyone who loves a good thriller. If you have not read the books, you can read each on it own, just the personal stories may seem a bit weird as John Mefford does carry those over as he should, but the stories themselves are a great read and At Dusk is no different! Every time I read a new book in this series I think, this would make a great movie, though the book will always be better!

Aquarium Nashville Restaurant Review

Aquarium Nashville

Recently my family and I took a trip to Nashville Tennessee. My sister lives their and we were very excited to see her and check out a little more of what Nashville had to offer. We visited many places and I will be writing about a few of them later, this review is about Aquarium Restaurant in Nashville and my family’s experience there.

20160815_213627

We did not make reservations and we were a party of 11, so we knew we would have a wait. We waited about an hour for our table and that was fine, unfortunately things took a bit of a turn as we were being seated. We were seated at 2 tables, we were not asked if this was okay, they just seated us there. Now if a restaurant is really busy and that is the only way they can seat us, we have no problem with it, but this was not the case, there were at least 30 tables available in the restaurant and in the empty area was a table that could fit all of us together.

We spoke with the manager to see if we could be moved to a table where we could all eat together. The manager was great about it and our server didn’t seem to have a problem with our move, she didn’t mind that she would have to go a little out of her area to wait on us. It made me feel a bit better about the experience.

20160815_213620

Really that was the only issue we had with the restaurant and though I understand that they were trying to seat in the areas where they have servers, they should have at least asked to begin with if someone would be willing to wait on a large party out of their area before seating us at separate tables, this was on the hostess, who did not say a word about 2 tables. Most of my family is or has been in food service so, we do know how this works and understand when it’s busy, but this was a Monday night.  My advice would be to make reservations even if you are not going on a busy day.

20160815_205754

Overall we did have a really great experience. If you have never been to Aquarium restaurant it is like eating inside a fishbowl. The kids really enjoyed watching all of the fish swim around and they were able to go and look at the fish while we waited for our food. It made it such a great experience because they didn’t have to sit and wait, they could go check out all the fish. The tank is in the middle of the restaurant and it’s a good size tank, the kids had fun following the big fish all around the tank!

20160815_201847  20160815_213544

The food itself was amazing. I was actually kind of surprised at how good it was. Most of the time restaurants like these have okay food, because your paying for the atmosphere, but the food really was amazing and even with the distraction of watching the fish, the kids ate really well and even said how good it was.

20160815_210654

I ordered the Chicken and Shrimp Bianco. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the pasta was simple but delish! Everything came out really hot and the serving size was large enough that some of us did end up taking home leftovers. The picture above was after I ate some of it as I was hungry and forgot to take a picture! They also have some really great drink deals, you get a souvenir glass with some adult beverages and they even have a cool one for the kids!

20160824_115238

As we finished eating our server came over and talked all about the fish and asked the kids questions about what one they liked the most and what they wanted to know more about. She really was amazing and knew much more about the fish then I would think a server would know!

After a bad start our experience really turned out to be a lot of fun and I would love to go back and eat there again. This time though, with a reservation.

Slave Queen Book Review

cover92390-medium

About Slave Queen by H.B. Moore

Special Agent Omar Zagouri’s latest case is his most dangerous—and his most personal yet. The discovery of secret sixteenth-century letters unveils a plot between the sultan Suleyman and his chief wife, Roxelane, to change the course of the Ottoman Empire. A descendent of Roxelane, Zagouri learns he has an enemy whose revenge has been centuries in the making.

Targeted by an antiquities collector who’s also descended from a chief rival for the ancient throne, Zagouri soon uncovers a modern-day conspiracy that threatens the lives of his family and the security of a nation.

To expose the plot, Zagouri must team up with Naim, the son of his nemesis, who heads an international black-market operation that may have ties to the killings. From ancient Constantinople to the present-day Middle East, Zagouri is on a collision course with history. Time is running out to solve a royal mystery and stop a ruthless killer—one who has Zagouri’s name on his hit list.

My Review of Slave Queen

I was really excited to read this book. I have read many of H.B. Moors other books and this series is really one of my favorites! Omar is a complicated person and it makes for a fun character. I’m also a huge history person so throwing in history is something that makes a story even more interesting to me.

These books including Slave Queen take place in an area I haven’t learned much about, but one I want to. I have little knowledge of the Ottoman Empire, but after reading this book. I have found I want to learn more about this sultan and his wife Roxelane.

The story itself is a wonderful ride of twist and turns, it also has returning characters who you learn a little more about and who start to surprise you with how they act. I really did not see the end coming!

As you know if you read my reviews, I don’t give anything away, I hate when people do that so If you want to know how Omar and Naim’s new partnership works out you will just have to read the book!

At Dawn: Book Review

New Release….
Alex Troutt Thriller, Book #4
AT Dawn

FBI Special Agent Alex Troutt returns in a twisting, heart-pounding thriller.

Three flashes of light illuminate a dark sky. An unspeakable evil devours its prey.

The shimmering view of the sun-drenched ocean can often be nothing more than a mirage. For Alex Troutt, a trip back home for a much-needed summer vacation proves only one thing: greed rules. But how it takes root could destroy her world.

Fueled by the lust of power and money, the shadow of death envelopes her seaside hometown, including those closest to Alex. But as disconnected investigations converge into one focal point, Alex will stop at nothing to blow the entire crime ring straight to hell—even if she has to make the ultimate sacrifice…her life.

My Review of At Dawn

Every time I step into the world of Alex Troutt I get excited. These books are such a thrill ride that you really can not put them down. I’m not kidding!

This story is follows Alex to her hometown and to more of her family, we meet her father who we know was not a great father in the end, but we still have great hope for him. He seems to be doing well, but of course there is a killer on the lose, ruining Alex and her families vacation.

Alex handles things well, even though she just wants to relax and enjoy some time off the job, but of course it can’t work that way or we wouldn’t have a book! The twist and turns in At Dawn are just as crazy as every other book in this series and it won’t disappoint.

My Review of The Life We Never Expected

This was a very eye opening book for me. I have had a few friends who had children with special needs and I have a few friends who were children with special needs. It’s not easy to deal with, but I know they would not trade their children or their lives for anything. That is why I have to recommend this book to everyone. Even if you don’t know anyone with a special need, you should read this book!

It’s a huge eye opener that reaches right to your soul. The brash honesty of parents dealing with special needs is refreshing and wonderful. They may just be figuring all of this out, but really don’t you hate those help books where they have already gone though everything and it’s all okay. This one is so different because even at the end of the book, they are still figuring it out. It’s a great book for anyone who has just learned their child is special needs, because it really concentrates on the beginning of it all.

Ale Troutt Thriller: At Once Review

New Release….
Alex Troutt Thriller, Book #3
AT Once
“If you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything.”

FBI Agent Alex Troutt has no intentions of falling for anything. Apparently, neither do the bad guys, as the Boston area is once again targeted by extremists. Boston Strong of just a few years ago is now Boston on Edge. And this time, the targets are men of the cloth—priests.

At least that’s how it looks at first.

As investigators struggle to make sense of the bombings, Alex is thrown for a loop when the FBI assistant director asks her to investigate one of their own—a colleague and friend who is suspected of having ties to a known terrorist. Torn between her values of friendship and the oath she gave when she accepted her FBI credentials, Alex must now lead two investigations simultaneously.

The bombings don’t stop, and panic sets in as the carnage spreads beyond the realm of the original targets.

Bloody Sunday. The IRA. The movement toward peace. Wounds of decades ago have reopened, bleeding all over Boston. As she pieces together the puzzle, Alex begins to wonder just how innocent her colleague really is. It’s almost too much for her to fathom.

Just how far will someone go to make a stand?

Available to buy from…..
My Review of At Once

I have finally found a new thriller series that I just can not stop reading and can not put down. This one was hard not to pull out at work as it was even better then the first two and had me thinking what is going to happen next all day!

I really enjoyed the twist in this book that comes from Alex having to investigate her own boss. How awkward would that be! Apparently he was seen in Europe with a well known terrorist and that’s just a little fishy.

On top of that there are bombs going off in Boston and Alex and her partner Nick have to figure out who is behind it. The bomb keep going off and the evidence against her boss keeps building will Alex be able to clear her boss and solve the bombing mystery?

Buy the book and find out!

I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good thriller or mystery.

AT Large (An Alex Troutt Thriller, Book #2)
The pursuit of the truth. The hunt for a life.

For the first time in months, FBI Special Agent Alex Troutt feels almost normal, hanging out at a local bar with friends after work. Not long into the evening she stumbles over one of the most disturbing images she has ever seen.

And that’s only the beginning.

A body is found in Lowell, the human damage, once again, inconceivable. Hours later, another strike. Pushing heartache aside, Alex immerses herself in the investigation. But with every new clue comes a new twist.

With the killing spree drawing the attention of every intelligence and law enforcement agency in a five-state radius, Alex is forced to partner with an egomaniac from the CIA. Yet, even with limitless resources, every step forward proves to be a step too late, the kill list seemingly endless.

Once the killer makes it personal, Alex is left with no other option—she must confront the person who destroyed her life to try to cease the vicious murders. And when she finally learns the killer’s end game, every second counts if she has any hope of stopping the brutal killings.

The hunt will end. Will Alex?

My Review

Like the first book, At Bay, At Large is a thrill ride and so much fun to read. You really don’t know what is about to happen with this book and it really makes it one of those books you just can’t put down.

Alex thinks her life is back to normal and that the past is far behind her, yes she still has some issues, but she’s moving on. Unfortunately someone is ready to put a stop to that.

Spoiler: I normally don’t do these, but to review this book well for those who have read the first one, I have to.

After Alex loses her husband she doesn’t even realize how hard her life will soon get, not only is she dealing with her children and the loss of their father, but she is dealing with his infidelity. When the book starts she is finnaly starting to get over it all, but then the murders start and life twist upside down and you have no idea who could be doing these crazy murders.

I won’t go into too much detail, but it does have something to do with the murder of her husband, but with the man who committed it behind bars, who could be staging these horrible acts?

If you love a good thriller, this is a must read book and series. Check out my review of At Bay Here.

My Review of At Bay

I have to say this was a fun book to read! I couldn’t put it down and I can’t wait to read the next one. The story starts with Alex or Alexandria losing here memory due to a car crash, she’s a bit lost, a bit worried, but still seems to know her basics as an FBI Agent.

There are not many details given for Alex’s life and that make you feel her frustration at not knowing what is really going on. It makes for a very interesting read and a bit of a thrill ride as not only do you slowly start to uncover facts about her life, but as she working on trying to figure out what or who may have caused her crash, she’s also unraveling an old case and a new one that may just be tied together!

I don’t like to give spoilers in my review so that’s as far as I will go, but if you like a good action packed, fast moving thriller this is one for you!

Ozeri OW05A Prestige Electric Wine Bottle Opener

Ozeri Electric Wine Opener

I am a big wine drinker. I usually have a few glasses a week and I have been looking for a great wine opener for a long time. I am happy to say I have found one! I was really excited when I was asked to try the Ozeri OW05A Prestige Electric Wine Bottle Opener. I have until now been using a manual wine opener, but have tried a few that friends have had and really liked them.

Personally though, I love this one! It’s so easy to use and works on every bottle of wine I have tried it with. I really love that it’s so simple to use. You just hit the button and it brings the cork out and then you it the button again and it brings the cork out of the opener so that you have it to keep. I’m thinking I’ll hold on to my corks for a fun project later!

I also love the sleek look and design of this opener, it looks great out on the counter and is not something your going to feel like you have to hide away so no one can see it. It’s cordless so you can carry it around to open up many bottles (great for weddings and dinners) and it’s got a great rubberized grip so you avoid it slipping during use.

I really do love this and have not found any downside to it yet. The only thing that would be cool is to offer it in a few different colors. Just to appeal to a broader group of people.
