It’s that time of year. The time of year we are thinking more and more about vacations and getting away from everything after the holidays. I live in Michigan and I hate the cold, I know I should move, but that is not an option so instead I will dream of a wonderful vacation out of the cold. A vacation that takes place preferably in a warm climate, like Florida.
The problem is I don’t like crowds so most of the Florida hotspots are not really a place I want to go to relax and get away from it all. I would much rather be in a location without the crazy crowds and a place where I can relax and unstress, while still having a memorable vacation.
That is why I would love to visit Gulf County in Northwest Florida. It’s a wonderful country setting that is great for relaxation and unwinding from your daily life. Of course when you go on vacation you also want to meet new people and make some new friends, start your vacation in Gulf County by visiting the GCFL Welcome center for their cocktail hour and enjoy a few drinks, meet some new people and maybe make a few new friends to enjoy the rest of your vacation with!
They not only have wide open spaces, but they have some great Winter Fun Events that you just can’t do in the middle of January in Michigan. Things like exploring the St. Joseph Bay Buffer Preserve where I can check out over 20 different species of rare, protected plants, something I am very interested in because I have a huge interest in plants in general.
I also love the idea of a bonfire on the beach where I can gaze at a million stars, it makes me think of where I grew up and how much fun we had sitting outside and watching meteor showers in our backyard. It’s a great way to spend a night and if you have kids a good way to teach them a little about the sky without them realizing it’s an educational lesson!
I also love the idea of going fishing along the Gulf Coast! I have recently learned I love fishing and it’s something I want to learn more about. It would be a lot of fun to have a professional show me how. The best part is after catching your fish, you can then learn how to cook what you have just caught!
Of course if fishing or star gazing is not for you, there is also horseback riding along the beach and kayaking on the Dead Lakes both allow you to relax and do some exploring of local nature.
Really, Gulf County, Florida is a great area for a real relaxing vacation, not a crazy one where you need a vacation after your vacation, but one where you can come home and feel rested but also feel like you did something amazing at the same time. So, are you ready to Come visit GCFL and make some great memories? I know I am!
