ABOUT THE BOOK: The Life We Never Expected.

What do you do when hard or painful circumstances turn your world upside down, resulting in a life you never expected? Andrew and Rachel Wilson grappled with this question after both of their children were diagnosed with regressive autism. Refreshingly honest, this book explores the highs and lows of raising children with specials needs, reflecting on the broader question of how to cope with suffering of all kinds. Sharing personal stories from their lives and encouragement rooted in the truth of God’s Word, Andrew and Rachel highlight lessons they’ve learned related to fighting for joy and thriving in the midst of trials—ultimately pointing readers to Christ, the One who promises to make all things new.

My Review of The Life We Never Expected

This was a very eye opening book for me. I have had a few friends who had children with special needs and I have a few friends who were children with special needs. It’s not easy to deal with, but I know they would not trade their children or their lives for anything. That is why I have to recommend this book to everyone. Even if you don’t know anyone with a special need, you should read this book!

It’s a huge eye opener that reaches right to your soul. The brash honesty of parents dealing with special needs is refreshing and wonderful. They may just be figuring all of this out, but really don’t you hate those help books where they have already gone though everything and it’s all okay. This one is so different because even at the end of the book, they are still figuring it out. It’s a great book for anyone who has just learned their child is special needs, because it really concentrates on the beginning of it all.

I had 2 autistic children. Both also had seizures. (My son died 6 years ago of SUDEP, Sudden Unexplained Death in Epiteptics.) My daughter, now age 27, also has ADHD. This is not what I expceted 35 years ago when my son was born. My biggest concerns now are 1) what happens after my husband and I die? (Because we do not plan to outlive her too!) and bisic concern about when we retire… (Was not counting on parenthood being a life-long fulltime job!)
